Green Open Space (GOS) is an important thing that should indeed exist in every
urban area in Indonesia, the benefits of green open space are very numerous for
urban areas, one example is to maintain the beauty of the air considering that urban
areas can produce a lot of pollution both from office centers and from factories in
urban areas, green open space functions to balance air levels in urban areas, This
study aims to analyze the implementation of green open space (GOS) development
in Manado City as part of efforts to create a sustainable and environmentally
friendly urban environment. GOS plays a vital role in maintaining urban ecological
balance, improving air quality, and providing spaces for social interaction among
citizens. The research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing data
collected through interviews, field observations, and document analysis of local
government policies related to GOS management. The findings indicate that
although there are existing policies and plans concerning GOS in city planning
documents, the implementation still faces several challenges, such as limited land
availability, budget constraints, and low public participation. This study
recommends the need for stronger collaboration between the government, private
sector, and community in the development and preservation of GOS, as well as
stricter enforcement of regulations to ensure the proportion of GOS meets national
standards.
