This thesis research about the role of SUAKA in handling the problem of refugees
and asylum seekers in Indonesia. The problem in this thesis is that SUAKA as a
Non-governmental organization (NGO) has not mandate to provide international
protection and permanent solutions based on the convention on Refugee Status. The
research methods performed with normative method which referred to library riset
on positive legal norms regarding legislation and international agreements,
additional sources of literature that have relevance to this problem and also
supported by interviewing the persons involved. From the data analysis the
conclusion was done by deductive methods it would be concluded that the concrete
steps they had done including giving advocate the upholding of human rights of
refugees and asylum seekers in Indonesia, legal education and consulting, provide
legal aid for refugees involved in domestic legal issues and also increase public
awareness about refugee issues with the aim of expanding the network, so that other
NGOs including the community can participate in helping the problems of refugees
and asylum seekers in Indonesia. Therefore, the authors provide a suggestion
related to this case for government, the private sector and civil society.
