Waste management is systematic, comprehensive, and continuous activity that
includes waste reduction and handling. This study aims to examine the supervision
carried out by Environmental Agency on market waste management as an effort to
prevent water pollution at Pajak Pagi Market kutacane, Southeast Aceh Regency.
The research method used is empirical legal research based on social facts obtained
through interviews and literature study. Waste management is one of efforts to
prevent environmental pollution as regulated in law number 18 of 2008 concerning
Waste Management and Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021 concerning
the Implementation of Environmental Protection and Management. The result of the
study show that the supervision carried out by the Environmental Agency of
Southeast Aceh Regency on waste management at Pajak Pagi Market Kutacane is
conducted through indirect supervision, namely through field supervisors who
monitor sanitation activities and through a complaint-based supervision
mechanism from the community. However, in its implementation there are still
several obstacles, including the low level of public awareness in maintaining
environmental cleanliness and the absence of waste separation system between
organic and inorganic waste in the market area.
