The increasing number of visitors t Tambakboyo Reservoir in Depok District, Sleman
Regency has encouraged the growth of economic activities, particularly street vendors
(Pedagang Kaki Lima/PKL). However, the intensive use of single use plastic packaging
in trading activities contributes to plastic waste that has the potential to pollute the
water of the reservoir. This study aims to analyze the role of street vendors in preventing
water pollution caused by plastic waste in Tambakboyo Reservoir and to identify the
obstacles faced in implementing such prevention efforts. This research uses an
empirical legal research method with primary data obtained through interviews with
street vendors, the management of Tambakboyo Reservoir, and relevant government
agencies, including the Department of Public Works, Housing and Settlement Areas
(DPUPKP) and the Environmental Agency (DLH) of Sleman Regency. Secondary data
were obtained from legislation, legal literature, and related legal documents. The
results of the study show that street vendors have taken several preventive measures to
reduce water pollution, such as providing their own trash bins, collecting and
separating waste from their trading activities, and disposing of waste in designated
facilities provided by the government. However, the prevention of water pollution has
not been fully effective due to several obstacles, including the lack of environmental
awareness among visitors, inadequate waste management facilities, and limited
supervision and environmental education from relevant authorities. Therefore,
cooperation between street vendors, visitors, local government, and reservoir
management is necessary to maintain environmental cleanliness and prevent water
pollution in Tambakboyo Reservoir.
