Air is an important component for humans and living creatures, so its quality must
be maintained. One factor that reduces air quality is the burning of household
waste, which produces harmful emissions. This practice is still commonly carried
out by the community, including in the Tegalrejo District, which is not in line with
the waste management obligations as stipulated in Article 1 paragraph 5 of Law Number 18 of 2008, which emphasizes that waste must be managed through
reduction and environmentally sound treatment. This study examines the role, obstacles, and efforts of the Yogyakarta City Environment Agency in controlling air
pollution caused by the burning of household waste in the area. The method used is empirical legal research with primary data collection through interviews and
secondary data through legislation and literature. The results show that the
community burns waste due to low education in waste management and limited land. The Environmental Agency carries out its role through the MasJos program and air quality monitoring. Air quality in Kemantren Tegalrejo is still below the air quality standard threshold. Therefore, after conducting air quality monitoring, the Yogyakarta City Environmental Agency provides education on waste management through the MasJos program. The MasJos program aims to increase community participation in reducing the volume of waste.
