Air pollution is an environmental problem that is increasing in urban areas, partly due to the high number of motor vehicles. The city of Yogyakarta, as a tourist and
educational city, has experienced significant growth in motor vehicles, contributing to increased exhaust emissions and a decline in ambient air quality. Therefore,
effective air pollution prevention measures are needed, one of which is through the development of green open spaces (RTH).
This study aims to determine efforts to prevent air pollution caused by motor vehicles through GOA in the city of Yogyakarta and to identify obstacles
encountered in its implementation. The research method used is empirical legal
research with data collection through interviews with the Yogyakarta City
Environment Agency and Transportation Agency as well as a literature study of
relevant laws and regulations and literature.
The results of the study show that air pollution prevention in Yogyakarta City is
carried out through air quality monitoring using the Air Quality Monitoring System
(AQMS), the implementation of motor vehicle emission tests, and the provision of
green spaces as ecological instruments to absorb air pollutants. However, the
implementation of these efforts has not been optimal due to constraints such as
limited land, the failure to meet the minimum green space ratio of 30% as stipulated
in Law Number 26 of 2007 concerning Spatial Planning, and the increasing number
of motor vehicles. Therefore, policy strengthening, inter-agency coordination, and
community participation are needed to improve the effectiveness of air pollution
prevention in the city of Yogyakarta.
