Witness protection by the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) at the
Sleman District Court is an effort to ensure that witnesses can provide testimony
safely, free from threats, and in accordance with applicable legal provisions. This
study aims to analyze the correlation between witness protection by LPSK and the
speed of criminal case resolution at the Sleman District Court, as well as the
obstacles encountered in its implementation. The research method used is
empirical legal research with a qualitative approach, conducted through
interviews with LPSK officials and judges at the Sleman District Court, as well
as a review of statutory regulations and relevant literature. The results show that
criminal cases with LPSK protection were resolved in 70 days, faster than similar
cases without LPSK protection, which took 76 days. The protection provided
included physical security, legal assistance, psychological support, safe waiting
room facilities, and coordination with law enforcement officers. The obstacles
identified include limited human resources at LPSK, a lack of understanding
among witnesses regarding protection, and varying levels of case complexity.
Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen LPSK’s role through increasing
personnel, enhancing coordination with the court, and providing continuous
education to witnesses to support a judicial process that is fast, fair, and secure
