Hospitals constitute a fundamental component of national healthcare
systems, providing essential services to improve public health. Nevertheless, their
operations generate substantial quantities of hazardous and toxic waste (B3),
which, if improperly managed, can result in severe environmental contamination
and pose significant risks to human health. In Indonesia, the management of B3
waste is governed by a comprehensive legal framework, including Undang-Undang
Nomor 32 Tahun 2009 tentang Perlindungan dan Pengelolaan Lingkungan Hidup
serta Peraturan Menteri Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan Nomor 56 Tahun 2015,
which mandates the reduction, segregation, storage, transportation, and
environmentally sound disposal of such waste. This study focuses on the
management of solid B3 waste at RSUD H. Badaruddin Kasim, Tanjung, Tabalong
Regency, identifying specific issues of non-compliance, particularly related to
storage periods exceeding the prescribed 2×24-hour limit. Employing a qualitative
legal research methodology, incorporating in-depth interviews and statutory
analysis, this research evaluates the hospital’s waste management practices in
relation to established environmental and public health standards. The results are
expected to provide constructive recommendations for enhancing compliance,
strengthening hospital-based waste management systems, and preventing potential
environmental pollution, thereby contributing to sustainable healthcare operations.
