Human Rights are fundamental and essential rights inherent to every human being
since birth, as a gift from the Almighty God. Human Rights form the foundation for
other rights and duties that are inherent to humans, such as the right to life, the
right to freedom, and the right to equality, which must not be violated by anyone.
However, human rights violations still persist today in Indonesia and many other
countries. One of the recent issues is Human Trafficking. Sikka Police Department
thwarted a case of Human Trafficking involving 38 residents from East Manggarai
and Manggarai, along with 15 children under five years old. The rampant cases of
Human Trafficking in Sikka Regency have urged the Sikka Regency Government to
take measures to prevent and stop this crime. One of the steps taken has been to
improve the quality and quantity of the police force in the region. Based on the
empirical legal research method used in this study, the findings show that the Sikka Police Department has maximized its efforts to tackle Human Trafficking in Sikka Regency. All actions and measures have been carried out effectively and systematically. However, the Sikka Police Department and the Indonesian National Police should carry out their duties consistently in tackling Human Trafficking, not just addressing the issue, but also resolving it completely to prevent any future occurrences of Human Trafficking in Sikka Regency or Indonesia.
