Abstract

Tourism is one of economy sector in Indonesia. The monetary contributed to the sector is small compared to its counterpart from ASEAN countries, such as Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. The objectives of the study was to assess the adequacy of the infrastructure that support the tourism sector, such as airport, highway, and tourism facilities. Method of the study was employed Australian Infrastructure report-card. Data was obtained through questionnaire send to engineers working in various construction industry in North Sumatera, Archipelago of Riau, Bangka Belitung, Jakarta, Western Java, Yogyakarta, Bali, Southern Sulawesi, Northern Sulawesi, and Ambon. Almost 200 engineers and experts participated in this study. Results showed that overall infrastructure assessment by the engineers that supported the tourism sector was in grade C, indicating that the infrastructure was in adequacy level. Detail of the infrastructure also accomplished in this paper. A case of Western Manggarai (includes Komodo Island) at Eastern Nusa Tenggara was also presented. It was found that Bali, as a major tourism destination for international visitors and has a better infrastructure than those from other provinces in Indonesia. Results of the case of Western Manggarai founded that only hotel were in good grade, whilst resto, airport, and hospital were considered adequate. Others were in poor condition. It is suggested that to improve the infrastructure for tourism facilities for other potential tourism in other provinces at least to the higher grade, so they are able to compete with the counterparts from other ASEAN countries.
