Abstract

This research examines the legal protection of endangered species exploited in
circus performances in Indonesia, focusing on the role of the Convention on
International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
Although Indonesia has ratified CITES, the exploitation of protected animals in
circuses still occurs due to weak law enforcement and regulatory inconsistencies.
Using normative legal research methods, the study identifies gaps between national
law and international obligations. The research concludes that stronger
enforcement, legal harmonization, and public awareness are essential to ensure
effective protection of endangered species.
