This research is titled “Legal Protection for Communities Occupying Sultanate
Land (Sultan Ground) in the City of Yogyakarta”. This study examines the unclear
status of Sultan Ground Land with the aim of finding clear legal protection and
legal certainty for the occupying communities and increasing caution in the use,
utilization, and transfer of rights to Sultanate Land (Sultan Ground). This research
used an empirical legal method with primary data collection through interviews
and literature studies, as well as qualitative analysis using inductive reasoning.
Theoretically, this research examines the implementation of National Legislation
and the Special Region of Yogyakarta Law in land management in the city of
Yogyakarta and various related laws. The results of this study show that there are
conflicts of interest between the Sultanate and the residents due to a lack of
transparency, agrarian regulations that do not accommodate the rights and
obligations of the community, and differences in interpretation regarding the
management of Sultan Ground land.
