Forced marriage in the Sumbanese term “Piti Rambang” is forcibly capturing or
abducting a desired woman while in a public place, which is carried out by the male
party together with his relatives to take the woman as a wife. Forced marriages that
occur today are detrimental to women, because women experience sexual violence
when men succeed in taking the woman to their residence, then the problems in this
study are related to the obstacles faced by the Police and the policies used by the Police
in tackling forced marriage. This research uses an empirical method. The results
showed that the obstacles experienced by the West Sumba Police in tackling forced
marriage were lack of public awareness and lack of law enforcement and the
perpetrators were still the closest people to the victims, the policies used by the Police
were through a non-penal approach and a penal approach.
