A spring is the center of groundwater discharge that appears on the ground as a
flow from groundwater flow which is formed due to the cutting of ground flow by
local topography and water coming out of rocks. The use of springs is very
diverse, including for daily needs such as: cooking, bathing, drinking, irrigation,
fisheries and for tourism objects. The construction of flats has the potential to
increase the water deficit, reduce the quality and discharge of ground water and
can damage or even pollutes springs if they do not pay attention to the
preservation of the surrounding environment. This research aims to analyze
proper legal protection and determine the efforts and constraints so that it can
provide solutions to water sources from damage and pollution due to the
construction of flats in Candi Karang Hamlet, Sardonoharjo Village, Ngaglik,
Sleman, Yogyakarta. The research was conducted using survey and observation
method. A number of interviewees and respondents from the authorities and local
community leaders were interviewed in a free and structured manner to obtain
data on water sources/spring. The results showed that the protection of the spring
law was not fully realized, there were still a number of violations. The efforts of
related agencies can be combined with efforts of the local community regarding
the protection of local springs, in order to obtain maximum and effective
protection.
