This study aims to assess the transformation that occurred in the rural area of Yogyakarta Special Region, [ocusing on location as afactor ill the transformation. Four rural areas were taken as a case study to further reline the results of the study. Pentingsari and Gabugan represent two rural case of
natural tourism transformation, and another two, Manding and Kasongan, for a case of industrial transformation.
