Abstract
This study aims to empirically examine waste management as an effort to control
pollution as a result of tourism activities on Nabire Beach, Nabire Regency. Tourism
development certainly has a positive impact in various sectors such as folk handicrafts,
increased employment opportunities and increased regional income. In addition to the
positive impacts that arise, there are also negative impacts that occur due to the development
of tourism and increased tourist visits, which include increasing the volume of waste. Waste
according to Article 1 number 1 of Law No. 18 of 2008 concerning Waste Management is the
rest of human daily activities and / or natural processes that are in solid form.
The sources of this research were the authorized officials working at the Culture and
Tourism Office of Nabire Regency and the Nabire Regency Environmental Service. Data
collection is done by interviewing informants directly about the problem of waste
management in Nabire Beach tourism place in Nabire Regency.
The results of this study indicate that waste management in Nabire District has not run
optimally due to the existence of several obstacles that have occurred such as the absence of
Regional Regulations specifically regulating waste management, lack of awareness of tourists
and inadequate facilities and infrastructure.
