According to OSHA 3071:2002, Job Safety Analysis (JSA) also known as Job
Hazard Analysis (JHA), is an analysis technique that centres on tasks of a job to
identify the hazards. This technique emphasis on the relationships between
workers, the task (Job sequence), the tools that were used and the environment.
This method is classified as active or proactive method in identifying the hazards
because of its preventive characteristics. Goetsch D. (2015) in his book divides
JSA into 3 steps which are breaking down the job into steps, identify potential
hazards, and develop accident prevention procedures.
The hazards that were identified using JSA totalling to 31 hazards exposed in 20
job steps of material handling activities in CV. X. 16 of these hazards are
categorized as a medium risk hazard and the rest are low risk hazards. Out of 51
controls proposed, 40 controls were accepted, 9 controls were rejected and 2
controls that were put on hold.
